About R.M.R.

Rocky Mountain Remont (RMR) is a natural selection from Remont which is a regrowth variety developed by Montana State University.

Upon graduating from Montana State University, my parents, Don and Kay Keil, hand planted a small package of Remont Sainfoin, newly developed at MSU. The small plot seeded in the shelter belt led to bigger plots, to small fields, and onto much larger fields. Don developed a large crop near East Glacier Montana, elevation around 6000 ft with average to low moisture. With over 40 years of natural selection and hand harvesting seed from the best plants, Don marketed his seed as "Rocky Mountain Remont". In 2017, Don passed away and has handed down the business to my husband and myself. - Rollie and Jennifer Schlepp

History

Russia has grown sainfoin for over 1,000 years. France and Germany have grown it for 100s of years. It’s been on the North American continent for 100 years. Being a non-native legume like alfalfa, it is gaining popularity due to no-bloat and not susceptible to the alfalfa weevil, along with high quality and production.
